Weekly Food Budget Breakdown – Week 10 (3rd to 9th March 2025)

Another week of budget-friendly family meals, and this one included British Pie Week and Shrove Tuesday, so there were plenty of delicious treats!

What We Ate This Week

A mix of quick meals and home-cooked favourites:

  • Monday: Takeaway
  • Tuesday: Pulled Pork Tacos, Slaw & Cheddar Courgette Waffles
  • Wednesday: Fish & Chips
  • Thursday: Chicken Kiev, Square Potatoes & Veg (Garlic Butter Chicken for my fiancée)
  • Friday: Fry-Up
  • Saturday: Burger & Fries
  • Sunday: Roast Pork Dinner

Week Highlights – Home DIY & Comfort Food

With work keeping me busy, weekends were all about home decorating—we’re slowly making our first home our own! After an exhausting weekend, we treated ourselves to a Monday takeaway.

The meal of the week? Pulled Pork Tacos with Cheddar Courgette Waffles. The waffles were Keto-friendly, crispy outside, soft inside, and paired perfectly with slow-cooked pork, homemade slaw, and sriracha—absolute winner! Big thanks to Carolyn at alldayidreamaboutfood.com for the inspiration.

We also celebrated British Pie Week with a Minced Beef & Veg Pie (recipe here!)

and made crepes for Shrove Tuesday—mine was filled with lemon, sugar, and summer berries.

Weekly Food Budget Recap

  • Food Shop: £122.72 (including toiletries)
  • Guilt-Free Food (Takeaways & Treats): £38.90
  • Daily Food Cost per Person: £4.62 (a big improvement from last week!)

Aiming to maintain a budget of £150 or less for our food shop is working well and keeping takeaways minimal helps balance the budget, although just over this week.
