Why We Love This Recipe

Last week, the middle of June, the UK had a proper mini heatwave. Now, I know what you’re thinking—was it really that hot? But let’s be honest, we Brits tend to swing between “it’s freezing” and “it’s scorching,” and this time, it was the latter. With the thermometer tipping over 30°C, we were well and truly roasting.

So, what’s the go-to response when the sun’s out in full force? You guessed it—we fired up the BBQ. Burgers were sizzling, kids were playing, and the garden turned into our little summer haven. But do you know what really made that sunny spread sing? Sorbet. Not just any sorbet—this was a homemade trio of cool, sweet, fruity magic: Raspberry, Black Cherry, and Mango, all uplifted with a zingy mix of mint and lime.

Why This Dish Works on a Budget

One of the best things about sorbet? It’s incredibly budget-friendly:

  • Simple Ingredients: Frozen fruit, a little sugar, fresh mint, and lime juice—most of which you probably already have.
  • No Fancy Equipment Needed: A basic blender or food processor and some freezer space will do the trick – although we used our Ninja Creami
  • Feeds a Crowd: This recipe easily serves the whole family (and then some), making it ideal for summer get-togethers or sneaky freezer treats.

Plus, you’re in full control of the sugar levels, which is great for kids—and even better for parents trying to keep things balanced.

Will You Be Trying It?

With flavours that hit every note—tangy raspberry, rich cherry, tropical mango, and that cool burst of minty lime—this sorbet is the summer dessert you didn’t know you needed. Whether you’re throwing a BBQ, planning a family picnic, or just need a sweet treat after dinner, this fruity combo is a winner.

You can make one flavour or go wild and prep all three like we did. Trust me, it’s worth it. The contrast of the flavours is pure joy, especially when you get a spoonful that mingles mango and mint, then hits you with a punch of raspberry. So. Good.

Budget Breakdown 🛒💷

Here’s how the cost per portion stacks up across UK supermarkets:

  • Aldi – £0.53
  • Asda – £0.60
  • Morrisons – £0.60
  • Tesco – £0.69
  • Sainsbury’s – £0.60

(Prices correct at the time of posting for Aldi and Tesco (some products were not present while checking so took an average — always worth checking for offers!)

Final Thoughts

This sorbet trio is more than just a cool treat—it’s a summer memory in the making. It’s easy, affordable, and guaranteed to bring smiles all around. Next time the heat creeps up (and it will), skip the shop-bought tubs and make your own. Get the kids involved, try new combos, and make it your own.

Let me know if you give it a go—and don’t forget to tag me in your photos. I’d love to see your fruity creations! 🍧☀️
