Budgeting under £6 per day – Aprils Budget / Cost Breakdown

1 May 2025 by Alan Brewer Leave a Comment

Ever wonder how much it really costs to feed a family in 2025 without sacrificing flavour, fun, or family time? With food prices still on the rise, we’re on a mission to slash our shopping budget without skimping on nutrition or taste and April was another step in the right direction.

📊 What’s the current UK Average Food Spend?

According to the latest data:

  • £50 to £60 per person per week is the average UK spend on food and non-alcoholic drinks
    • 🛒 £36 to £42 on general food shopping
    • 🍔 £14 to £18 on takeaways, eating out, and snacks

That totals £200–£240 per person per month.

For a family of five, that adds up to:

£1,080 to £1,300 per month on average, so how did we do?

Pork Chop with Spinach and Mushroom Cream Sauce,
Salt & Pepper Chicken and Chips,
Fry-Up,
Strawberry and Banana Muffins

✅ Our April Food Budget Breakdown

We tracked every penny spent on food, takeaways, and treats, and here’s the final tally:

  • 🛒 Groceries: £687.25
  • 🍟 Takeaways & Dining Out: £141.43
  • 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Daily Cost Per Person: £5.53

Yes – you read that right. Just £5.53 per person per day, which is less than a trip to Costa or Starbucks!

🎉 What We Gained (Besides Savings)

Despite coming in well below the UK average, we didn’t cut corners on quality time or treats. In fact, we enjoyed:

  • 🚶‍♂️ Family walks in the countryside
  • 🎢 Day trips to Inflatanation and The Forbidden Corner
  • 🍽 A few meals out that brought big smiles

So, while our budget was tight, our month was anything but boring.
