I must have had the best, and busiest week and half that I can remember as it was my daughters birthday on the 17th May 15 and my sons on the 22nd May 15. This post is to bring a couple of pictures of the birthday cakes that I made. For Ella’s I made a simple two tier white and purple cake with pink butterflies and for my son a Thomas the Tank Engine cake.
Now I am no whizz at making cakes but I do try my best have had some lessons on how to do some basic modelling or flower making as such through my time in the Army. These cakes I found challenging at the best of times and was mainly due to making sponge cakes which meant the decorating had to be done pretty quickly, within a couple of days. Some late night endured after this especially with Arthurs Thomas cake.
Both designs came from Google and then making as I seen best within my ability. I will admit that they will look very similar to some of the designs on Google and thank those who have made considerable effort to make these cake designs from scratch.
The cakes I made were a vanilla sponge and chocolate sponge, both from Eric Lanards book which I think is wonderful and have cooked and adapted many recipes from there. I will upload the recipes soon to the site and I hope you enjoy them as much as we have. They decorating elements such as the icing and cake boards were purchased from The Sugarsmith, Corby. On both occasions everyone who tried the cake loved it and commented on their moistness and rich flavour. Ella’s left over cake was cut up and went to her school which went down a treat and Arthurs was devoured as we had a family party on the weekend of the 23rd May 15.
The parties we held were definitely on different scales. Ella had some friends and herself embark on to Lush. A soap shop that makes their own organic soaps and various other products, the girls made their own soaps and had a pamper session of which they were able to take home their visionary soaps. Arthurs birthday had some close friends and family travel to our home of which we had plenty of playtime with the football and trampoline in the garden, followed by some great food done by myself and then once the kids had gone to bed we continued with a few drinks. Two fantastic weekends that this May bank holiday was much needed to allow rest.
